HEAT TRANSFER SIMULATIONS OF A SOLAR AIR RECEIVER UNDER THE CONCENTRATED SOLAR FLUX

摘要

The solar air receivers that utilize the concentrated solar flux to produce high-temperature air involve complicated heat transfer problems of conduction, convection, and radiation. The concentrated solar flux changes by many factors such as time-variant solar radiation, unpredictable weather, and the type of solar concentrators. The concentrated solar flux is usually simulated as a pure radiation heat transfer or optical problem, and the simulation results are imported to the heat transfer analysis of solar air receivers as a boundary condition. Open ceramic porous materials of solar air receivers absorb the concentrated solar flux, and the ambient air is heated while passing through the hot porous materials. Therefore, it is important that the heat transfer simulation of solar air receivers must be coupled with the solar flux simulation. In this study, we applied a ray-tracing method for simulating the solar flux distribution incident on multichannel absorber surfaces under the central-receiver concentration system. Then, we incorporated the solar flux simulation results and solved three-dimensional heat transfer problems using a commercial software. After validation of the simulation tool via comparison with experimental results, we investigated outlet temperature of air, pressure drop, and thermal efficiency of solar receiver while considering the changes of solar irradiance, ambient temperature, and wind speed.
