A Theoretical Model and Optical Design by SCGM for a Pulse-tube Stirling Engine


In the present study, a theoretical model is developed by combining the non-ideal adiabatic thermodynamic module and the dynamic module with a crank mechanism. In the thermodynamic module, a pulse-tube Stirling engine is divided by five chambers according to different interior dimensions and boundary conditions, such as power cylinder, pulse-tube, heater, regenerator, and cooler. Not only pressure, temperature, and mass of the working gas in each chamber are predicted, but also pressure-drops between different chambers are considered. According to the arrangement of a crank mechanism and the pressure calculated from the thermodynamic module before, the torque, and rotation speed of the crank could be predicted by dynamic module. Therefore, the indicated power of a pulse-tube Stirling engine could be shown by the theoretical model. The simplified conjugated gradient method (SCGM) could be applied by setting a goal function of indicated power. This method will chase for the maximum indicated power by adjusting engine parameters such as radial displacement, and the length to the linkage…etc. automatically. Eventually, a set of optimal engine parameters for about 30W is provided. To sum up, a mythology for predicting the performance of a pulse-tube Stirling engine is developed and also by combining the theoretical model with SCGM, the optimal parameters is provided.
