Abstract

A simple method for the rapid generation of superheated steam using a water-containing porous material was proposed. The start-up response and the rate of energy conversion for input power are within several seconds and higher than approximately 90%, respectively. In this paper, in order to clarify the mechanism of the rapid generation of superheated steam, the temperature of steam, and the surface roughness of porous materials were investigated experimentally. In conclusion, narrow gaps between a heated coil and porous material could contribute to the rapid generation of superheated steam.
