INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE PROCESSES IN THE WORK OF THE LINEAR PULSE ELECTROMECHANICAL TRANSDUCER INDUCTION TYPE

Abstract

The linear pulse electromechanical transducer (LPET) induction type is designed for 1) fast acceleration following by departuring of an object at a very high speed (projectile) and/or 2) to create intensive high load impact by an executing element. As projectile-related, a variety of defense applications ("coiled guns"), naval based airplane and space launching ('electromagnetic catapults") are being developed in several countries. As an executing impact element, the LPETs can be used for a variety of industrial applications such as for rubble breakers of various power, rock separators, seismic sources of various power and exciting force, fast-acting valves and switching equipment, test complexes to check important articles on impact loads, powder pressing, cleanout of cars, bilges and other containers from leaving and sticking materials etc. The efficiency, and thus, further development of the abovementioned systems is however limited by heating and, as the result, additional electromagnetic field and dissipation. A new, more realistic model than reported by us previously, is proposed. It has been shown that cryogenic cooling allows a substantial increase of the accelerator efficiency. Coupled model describing effect of cryogenic cooling on electromagnetic and thermal characteristics of LPETs is considered in this paper. RESULTS: Cooling LPET can sufficiently increase its efficiency.
