Abstract

Data center thermal modeling is becoming more important over the past few years. In fact, the energy consumption is increasing so rapidly it needs to be controlled. Between 25% and 40% of total energy is consumed on the cooling systems and that equipment is very important to preserve the information technology and to assure that servers and data storage units perform within the specifications.
In this paper a thermal modeling of a data center is described and simulated. For this purpose, experimental data was used as input/boundary conditions to the simulations. In order to reduce the computational costs, the geometry was simplified, though the mesh parameters show good characteristics. The computed values for the temperature and velocity are in close agreement to the experimental data at selected locations.
