Abstract

Flash evaporation is a well-known phenomenon that when a liquid is suddenly exposed to an environment below its saturate pressure, it becomes superheated and the heat surplus is released in the form of latent heat of evaporation. Considering that the high pressure and high temperature flash evaporation appears frequently in industry, we design and build a new experimental system to explore flash evaporation under high pressure and high temperature. In our experimental system, there is a large chamber with two large windows and a boiler as the heating source, which is a special feature of our experimental system. The multipoint thermocouple is used to measure the water temperature and a CCD digital camera is to record the images of the flashing process. The experiments are with an initial water temperature of 110°C to 135°C, and initial superheat ranging from 5K to 30K, are conducted to obtain variations of the non-equilibrium fraction (NEF). Results indicate that flash evaporation is influenced by its initial water temperature and superheat, the phenomena become more intense as initial superheat increases. Initial superheat is the driving force of the whole process.
