VORTEX-INDUCED VIBRATIONS OF AN ELLIPTIC CYLINDER AT DIFFERENT ANGLES OF INCIDENCE
Abstract
Damped free transverse-only vibrations of an elastically mounted inclined elliptic cylinder are explored numerically. Two-dimensional stabilized space-time finite-element computations are performed at Reynolds number, Re of 100 over a reduced speed, U* range of 1-15. The damping ratio, ζ is 0.1076 and a low mass ratio, m* of 0.93 is used. Flow/VIV characteristics, fluid forces and wake vortex modes are analyzed.
