Abstract

This paper reports the results of a numerical investigation of the fluid flow and heat transfer behaviour of single and multiple jet impingement over a uniformly heated surface. To mimic a typical computer processer, a 37 mm × 37 mm vertical plate is used for the investigation. By using commercially available Ansys Fluent software, simulations have been performed for three dimensional, turbulent, air jet impingement on a surface. Parameters varied in the study are the jet Reynolds number (2,000 - 12,500), dimensionless jet-to-plate separation, L/d (5, 10, 15, 17.5 and 20) and the jet configurations. In all, five jet configurations are used, which include, one configuration of single jet, two configurations of four jets and two configurations of five jets. Local and average heat transfer performances are represented with the Range of temperatures and average Nusselt number over the surface respectively.
