Resumo

An experimental facility was constructed for an in-depth evaluation of the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of a finned tube bundle cooled externally by an air flow. A total of 15 finned tube heaters were arranged in a normal triangular array with a pitch-to-diameter ratio of 2.75. Circumferential wall temperature distributions of the finned tube heaters were obtained for different air flow velocities and finned tube heater locations, and pressure drop characteristics of the finned tube bundle were evaluated for various air flow velocities. CFD calculations were carried out for the same test channel and tube bundle geometries and for the same fin tube heating and air flow conditions. A sensitivity of various turbulence models was checked. Comparisons between the experiments and CFD analysis confirmed the feasibility of using CFD code for the prediction of the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics in an air cooled finned tube bundle.
