Resumo

A thermosyphon is a high heat flux, passive heat transfer device which uses the evaporation, condensation and surface tension of working fluid to attain an extremely high thermal conductivity. In this experiment, the thermal behavior of circular finned thermosyphon using nanofluids with alcohol is analyzed and compared with DI water. The concentration of nanoparticle used in this setup were 80 mg/lit of α-Al2O3 combined with 0.2 ml of ethylene glycol and 100 mg/lit of α-Al2O3 combined with 0.2 ml of ethylene glycol. The heat input (Q) were 10W, 12W, 14W and 16W and the orientation 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° of circular finned thermosyphon. The result shows that relatively high rate of heat transfer and the maximum thermal efficiency of 88% were obtained while the thermosyphon was filled with 100mg/lit of α-Al2O3 nanofluid combined with 0.2 ml of ethylene glycol.
