NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF A DISKS-TYPE INDUCTION PUMP ON ROTATING PERMANENT MAGNETS
Resumo
We perform a numerical study of a disks type electromagnetic induction pump based on permanent rotating magnets (PMP). The theoretical analysis of such pumps is complicated and cumbersome since the system is non-symmetrical and highly three-dimensional, so that the magnetic field and, hence, the induced electromagnetic forces are distributed non-uniformly in the radial direction. In this work, the numerical model of a liquid metal flow in a semi-circular duct between two rotating disks has been developed. Lorentz forces acting on the molten metal are calculated using ANSYS 14.0 Mechanical software and then exported as an external force source for the fluid dynamic analysis which is performed independently by ANSYS CFX Solver. An iterative fully coupled scheme for electromagnetic and hydrodynamic simulations has been implemented. The model allows for the calculation and subsequent analysis of the flow parameters and the pressure-flow rate characteristics of the pump. The results are found to be consistent with the existing experimental data.
