A NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF UNSTEADY FLOW IN A LID DRIVEN SQUARE CAVITY FOR LAMINAR AND TURBULENT CASES
Аннотация
Experimental and numerical studies are performed on steady and unsteady lid driven cavity flow case. In experiments PIV and LDA equipment were employed to measure the global and local velocities respectively inside a cavity of Aspect Ratio 1.0. The velocity vector plots which represents unsteady and steady state circulations are obtained using the PIV. The steady local velocities measured with LDA are then used to calibrate the PIV measurements. Numerical study is performed using a commercial CFD solver. For turbulent flow simulations, Reynolds Average Navier Stoke Equations (RANS) along with standard K-Epsilon closure model were used. PIV calibration attempt showed that the horizontal velocity profile measured using PIV and
predicted by CFD solver agreed well however, both overestimated the local velocities measured by the LDA close to the moving lid.
