摘要

Natural convection in a laterally and volumetrically heated square cavity with one fin located at the bottom or top insulated wall is studied numerically with time-dependent governing equations. The flow is characterized by the external Rayleigh number, RaE, determined from the temperature difference of the hot and cold walls, and the internal Rayleigh number, RaI, determined from the volumetric heat generation. The effect of fin location, bottom versus top, on the flow regime and heat transfer is established with various Rayleigh numbers. Unsteady formulation allows the detection of periodic variations in heat transfer rate when the fin is located at the insulated top wall for relatively high RaE, whereas the fin on the insulated bottom wall leads to a steady behavior for all Rayleigh numbers considered here.
