摘要

A numerical study is conducted to establish a relation between Nusselt and Richardson Numbers for turbulent mixed convection inside a square cavity where the flow is driven by shear. The heat transfer resulting from mixed convection inside the fluid is partly driven by the temperature difference between the vertical walls of the rectangular cavity that are kept at constant but unequal temperatures. The mathematical model adopted to predict the flow characteristics and heat transfer inside this cavity comprises of unsteady RANS equations along with the Standard k-epsilon turbulence model and the energy equation for internal flows. The governing equations are numerically solved by a commercial CFD code which employees a semi implicit finite volume technique. The Richardson Number is kept in the range in the range of 0.001 to 1 for the parametric study that is carried out to determine its effect on heat transfer characteristics of the flow inside the cavity. The findings of the numerical study are presented in the form of velocity vector maps, temperature contours, and temperature and velocity profiles. The calculated average Nusselt Number for various Richardson Numbers are also presented in this study. Finally, the collected data from the numerical simulations was then used to develop a correlation for Nusselt Number in terms of Richardson Number.
