Abstract

Analysis of high temperature heat transfer was carried out for the conditions of heat flux from partially ionized plasma to electrode walls of electric arc heater. The heater is a twin plasma torch of 80-300 kW with DC transferred electric arc and it was studied based on similarity theory analysis and the physical modeling method to obtain generalized criterial dependences for thermal efficiency of the torch and heat flux density in electrodes. The efficiency level was found to be 84-90 % at optimal torch operation. Obtained equations demonstrate that heat transfer in the torch is mostly affected by the convection factor and radiation one, and the effect of characteristic geometric simplex was found. The new established dependences can be applied to design of plasma chemical reactors for gasification, pyrolysis, vitrifying of wastes or fuels, and for nanocarbons synthesis.
