要約

Data center servers consume enormous amounts of energy. They account for over 1.5% of US electricity usage or 1.3% of the world's electricity usage, with an increasing growth each year. The Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) based data center could potentially save up to 33% of the IT and cooling energy based on the capability of rerouting workload from partially loaded servers, and allowing additional idle servers to shut down by using OWC links. However, the OWC links saving performance can be greatly influenced by vibration of the racks and floor in the data center; either displacement or tilting of the racks will result in a decrease in efficiency of the link and hence influence the energy saving. In this paper, we derive energy saving models for the OWC links subject to various vibration conditions and a vibration control algorithm which will be further carried out for energy saving optimization.
