EFFECT OF FREESTREAM TURBULENCE ON RECOVERY FACTOR OF A CYLINDRICAL TEMPERATURE PROBE
要約
When measuring the fluid temperature in a high-speed flow field, the temperature probe recovery factor must
be known in order to deduce the local static and total temperatures in the flow. The probe recovery factor
is known to be a function of probe geometry and fluid Prandtl number. Additionally, the probe recovery
factor has been shown to vary with Reynolds number and Mach number. However, it is unknown whether
the recovery factor varies with freestream turbulence intensity. In this study, the probe recovery factor for a
butt-joint thermocouple probe (small cylinder in crossflow) was experimentally determined over a range of
freestream turbulence intensities (1% to 6%) for a Mach number of 0:2. Results showed that there was a
small, but repeatable, decrease in the probe's recovery factor as the turbulence intensity increased. Failure
to properly correct for this effect can lead to significant error in measuring the temperature in a high-speed turbulent flow field.
