Auto-correlated laser-induced incandescence (AC-LII) infers the soot volume fraction (SVF) by comparing the spectral incandescence from laser-energized soot particles to the pyrometrically-inferred peak soot temperature. This calculation requires detailed knowledge of the spectral absorption function of soot, which is subject to considerable uncertainty. This paper presents a Bayesian methodology that can be used to quantify the uncertainty associated with this measurement. While standard AC-LII analysis provide a point-estimates of the SVF, Bayesian inference estimates the posterior probability density, which will allow scientists and engineers to better assess the reliability of AC-LII inferred SVF in the context of environmental regulations and competing diagnostics.
