NUMERICAL MODELING AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF MULTI-PASS SOLAR AIR HEATER
Resumo
Application of solar energy in energy recovery systems for both industrial and residential applications are
becoming more popular due to the public's environmental concerns, solar technology's low cost, and
availability. In this study, the performance of a multi-pass Solar Air Heater (SAH) for different lengths of
flat fins has been studied numerically. An experimental test rig was prepared and the results have been
collected during the winter at Daejeon, South Korea. The obtained results were used as the benchmark for
the numerical simulations. A numerical model has been developed in the Ansys Fluent commercial code
using the appropriate User Defined Functions (UDFs) and has been validated against the obtained
experimental data. Using the developed numerical setup the effect of different working conditions on the
total heat transfer of the SAH has been studied.
