Resumo

Militray aircraft is provided with afterburner to provide the additional thrust when required. The afterburner consisits of diffuser, fuel manifolds, V-gutter, screech liner, casing and convergent divergent nozzle. The afterburner with standard V-gutter has been investigated previously. The afterburner model with modified vgutter has been modeled. The 60° sector full scaled afterburner model was imported into ANSYS® Fluent for computational analysis. The steady state numerical analysis is carried out with the help of SIMPLE algorithm and realizable k-ε model for turbulence calculations were selected. Kerosene (C12H23) is taken as the fuel. Virtual fuel injectors for fuel injection are specified. Energy equation and species transport with the Discrete Phase model is selected for computations. The CFD results like temperture, pressure, velocity and denisty are presented. The steady state CFD results are imported into ActranTM for acoustic analysis. The mean square acoustic pressure and transmission loss have been presented. These results were compared with the earlier results obtained for the afterburner model with standard v-gutter. The best afterburner model is suggested.
