Resumo

With the development of science, the design and application of various hydrophobic surfaces have attracted more and more attention from researchers all over the world. In the natural world, a wide range of plant surfaces have high hydrophobicity and self-cleaning functions. It is well-known that hydrophobic surfaces can effectively reduce drag, but the mechanism of drag reduction by hydrophobic surfaces is so far not clear. In this paper, both experiments and numerical simulations were used to testify the relationship between hydrophobicity and drag reduction. For the experimental part, six different surfaces with different hydrophobicity were chosen and tested. The results reveal that the hydrophobic surfaces show less skin-friction drag compared to a normal surface. For the numerical simulation part, totally 16 direct numerical simulations were conducted and concluded that the streamwise slip can effectively reduce the fractional drag, but the spanwise slip increases the fractional drag. This research further uncovers the strategies for further drag reduction of hydrophobic surface: increasing the streamwise-slip-capability while suppressing the streamwise-slip-capability.
