Resumo

The present work was carried out with the objective of analyzing the flow and trajectory of the droplets generated by the discharge of a sewage pipe to a canal of a sewer system in the city of Guayaquil. Firstly, it was measured the quality of the sewage through the evaluation of physical, chemical, microbiological, and molecular parameters. Subsequently, a computational simulation of the gas-liquid flow was performed using commercial software. A two-dimensional domain was developed including the pipe and the canal. The multiphase volume-of-fluid simulation model was used with a k-ε viscosity model to study the behavior of the fluid. Results showed the presence of fecal coliforms, surfactants, biochemical oxygen demand and total solids above the allowed limit. Pressure, volume fraction, velocity and turbulence fields were obtained showing several regions of turbulence. To track the water droplets, a discrete-phase-model was used, resulting in a maximum height of 5 m with respect to the discharge pipe, with a velocity in the Y axis of 1.18 m/s. It turned out that droplets can rise to the canal surface, generating a possible risk condition for the people who pass around this area.
