EFFECT OF AIR SUPPLY DISTRIBUTION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A SMALL OPEN TOP REBURN GASIFIER
Resumo
Biomass gasification is the thermochemical conversion of solid biomass to gaseous fuel, in biomass gasifiers. The air supply plays an important role in determining the performance of biomass gasifiers. A transient onedimensional model, originally developed for an Imbert type gasifier, has been adapted for the simulation of an open top reburn downdraft gasifier. In the present work, a 4kW gasifier, originally designed for use in a domestic cookstove, has been selected for the analysis. The focus of the present work is to investigate the effect of airflow rate and the fraction of air flow rate from top and tuyeres on the overall performance of the gasifier. Simulations
have been carried out by varying the fraction of airflow rate from top, from 0% to 60% of the total air supply, and by varying the total airflow rate from 30 to 50 slpm. The results indicate that there exists an optimum fraction of air entering from top for which the gas contains highest percentage of combustibles.
