Resumo

Experimental study is done to investigate the natural convection heat transfer from inclined square cylinders. Five different cylinders of 1m length, 8×8, 7×7, 6×6, 4×4 and 2.5×2.5 cm2 cross sections are used. The cylinders are heated using inserted heating of 6 mm in diameter. Self adhesive thermocouples are used at the upper, bottom and at one side of the cylinders for temperature measurement. Three inclination angles of 30, 45 and 60° were used for each cylinder. The experiments are done in air environment. The thermocouples are distributed on the surfaces 10 cm apart such that the local temperatures along the surfaces can be measured. Variable heat fluxes are obtained by using voltage controller for the electrical power supply. The heat flux is assumed to be dissipated uniformly along the cylinder surface. For each cylinder, about ten heat fluxes are used to generate the heat transfer data. Average heat transfer coefficient is determined for each cylinder at each inclination angle for every uniform heat flux. Correlations of the dimensionless Nusselt numbers verses the modified Rayleigh numbers are obtained for each cylinder and for each inclination angle for all cylinders.
