Resumo

Dropwise condensation and droplet coalescence of water on gold film is visualized using Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) reflectance microscopy. SPR microscopy can characterize the properties of the thin films of about 200 nm by measuring the changes in the refractive index (RI) of the test medium on thin metal films. In the experiment water is condensed on a gold coated glass slide which also acts as a sensor for the SPR measurements. The process of water condensation and subsequent droplet coalescence is visualized at high speeds. These experiments will help in better understanding the dynamics of contact line during condensation.
