THERMODYNAMIC STUDY OF MICRO SCALE ORGANIC RANKINE CYCLE (ORC) USING MODIFIED GOUY−STODOLA EQUATION
Resumo
Thermodynamic analysis of a micro-scale Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is performed, to assess its energetic and exergetic performances. The unique feature of the present study is that the performance of ORC is studied with modified Gouy−Stodola equation and the results are compared with the classical approach of exergy evaluation. The expressions are formulated for effective temperature and real irreversible loss for different components of ORC. Energy and exergy losses/destructions for the ORC and its units are determined. Using modified Gouy−Stodola equation, the irreversible loss is higher for the system components having higher effective temperature as compared to reference ambient temperature. Present study shows quantitative difference in total irreversibility rate of ORC when modified yet more realistic approach of exergy analysis is employed.
