Аннотация

A thermo-economic model for the analysis of the energy demands and the levelized cost of water produced by an innovative eutectic freeze desalination system is presented. In the proposed desalination system, an immiscible heat transfer fluid at temperatures below the eutectic point of the brine is injected into the solution. Multiple cyclones separators are employed to separate the ice, salt hydrates, the heat transfer fluid and brine from the slurry. The thermo-economic analysis accounts for the major cost components affecting the desalination economy, including the cost of energy to run the desalination system, the capital cost for acquiring the refrigeration system and other components of the desalination system, installation and assembly, and operation and maintenance costs. The total costs are calculated for a desalination plant with a capacity of 1000 ton/day over a lifetime of 30 years and the average cost of desalination per ton of water is evaluated.
