NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF FINITE POROUS JOURNAL BEARING

A novel approach for modeling the fluid film within a porous journal bearing was presented. An analytical solution for a three-dimensional pressure distribution within the porous medium dictated the injection velocity from the porous bushing. The pressure distribution was used with Darcy's law to determine the injection velocity for the Reynolds equation. Select cases were compared with previous work for approach validation. Results focused on trends amongst the pressure distribution for various bearing parameters.
