Аннотация

This article presents recent research results for an evaporative cooler installed on a computer data center for energy savings. Modern computer servers can tolerate ambient temperatures of 30−35 °C or higher, with the result that HVAC cooling demands for such facilities can be reduced and/or met with other technologies. Evaporative coolers, in particular, are well suited for data center applications, particularly if the climate conditions are favorable for such a system. This project discusses the design and development of a cooling strategy using a modern commercial evaporative cooler to be installed on a military data center in southern California. Additional sensors to record thermal cooling, water temperature, water usage, and electrical usage have been incorporated into the unit for energy monitoring and savings. The complete system is controlled using an MSTP BACnet over Internet server and software platform. The system presents real time energy and cooling performance for the device, so that the cost-benefit of temperature adjustments in the space can be assessed in real time.
